SALT LAKE CITY — A man was arrested Wednesday and accused of trying to secretly film a woman in a department store dressing room last fall.
Erik Gerardo Betancourt-Alvarado, 48, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of voyeurism.
Police say the incident happened on Sept. 16 at Nordstrom Rack, 2210 S. 1300 East. A woman was in a dressing room when she "saw the cellphone under the stall and believed it to be recording from a red light on the device. The victim confronted the male and asked why he was recording her in the dressing room," a police booking affidavit states.
The man quickly exited the store. The woman notified a store employee who followed Betancourt-Alvarado and got a picture of his license plate as he drove off, the affidavit states.
Using that information, in addition to surveillance video, Salt Lake police detectives later identified the man as Betancourt-Alvarado due in part to his tattoos, according to the affidavit. He was located, questioned and arrested on Wednesday.
